VALVES

Head Reconditioning – Why valves aren't enough?

Replacing just the valves in an old head is a mistake. To restore compression, you must replace the complete mating set. We offer a full range from KMP Brand and Azeri Parts:

  • Valve Guides: A worn guide causes the valve to "wobble", destroying the seat and the seal.
  • Valve Seats: Must be milled to the angle of the new valve (30° or 45°).
  • Valve Stem Seals: Hardened seals are the main cause of blue smoke (oil burning).

Springs and Collets

A broken valve spring can cause the valve to drop into the cylinder, destroying the engine. We offer single springs and double spring sets (inner + outer), as well as securing collets (cotters).

💡 Rebuilding the top end?

After verifying the valves, you will need gaskets to assemble the head. Check:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between intake and exhaust valves?

The intake valve typically has a larger head diameter. The exhaust valve is smaller but made of more durable steel (often non-magnetic), resistant to extreme exhaust gas temperatures.

Are seals included with valves?

No. Valves are sold individually. Valve stem seals must be purchased separately (they are often part of the "Top Gasket Set").

Looking for oversize stems?

Perkins engines used oversize valves (with thicker stems) for reconditioned heads. If you have such a head, contact us.
