Workshop Technical Advice: Eliminating lateral play using spacer shims is the cheapest and simplest way to protect expensive arm components from destruction (wearing out the lugs). Always try to choose the shim thicknesses so that they are placed symmetrically on both sides of the pin – this ensures that the arm, cylinder, or bucket will work in perfect alignment. Leave the minimum tolerance clearance recommended by the manufacturer; fitting them too tightly (hammering elements in by force) will hinder or even completely block the distribution of fresh grease, leading to pin seizure.
