Workshop Tip: Repairing clutch packs in gearboxes requires extreme precision. The most common cause of failure (clutch slippage or jerking during gear shifts) is the overheating of the discs, which leads to their deformation – the steel spacer plates turn purple and warp into a "cone" shape.

Golden rules for clutch pack overhaul:
1. Always replace as a set: Never replace individual spacer plates or just the friction discs. Always install a brand-new set of AM Premium steel spacer plates and dedicated friction discs for the given clutch basket.
2. Measure the total pack height: The nominal thickness of a single spacer plate is 1.2 mm. Before final securing of the basket with the retaining ring (circlip/snap ring), use a feeler gauge to ensure that the axial clearance of the pack falls within the tolerances specified by JCB. Too little clearance will lead to continuous clutch dragging and burning, while too much clearance will cause delayed gear engagement and violent hydraulic shocks.
3. Correct oil: After assembling the gearbox, fill it with fresh transmission fluid of the specification recommended by JCB.
