Workshop Tip: Poor contact at the main battery isolator is one of the most common, yet most frequently ignored, causes of machine starting problems. Starting currents are huge—if the contacts inside the switch are burnt out or the cables are loose, the voltage drops drastically. When replacing the switch with a new one, make sure that the ground wire ring terminals are thoroughly cleaned of corrosion and that the retaining nuts are securely tightened.
