Technical Advice: A temperature sensor failure is often manifested not only by incorrect readings on the gauge in the cabin, but also by problems with starting a cold engine (the computer "thinks" the engine is hot and provides too small a dose of fuel) or black smoke from the exhaust. During sensor replacement, always make sure the engine has completely cooled down to avoid burns from pressurized coolant. Screw in the new sensor carefully – brass threads are delicate. Before plugging in the connector, also check the condition of the plug in the machine's wiring harness; oxidized contacts change the circuit resistance and falsify the reading!
