Workshop Tip: Bent pushrods are a classic symptom of valve-to-piston contact (e.g., after a timing belt/chain failure or temporary valve sticking in the guide). A bent pushrod causes an immediate loss of power, uneven operation, and a loud metallic clicking sound under the valve cover.
During any cylinder head repair, perform a simple test: place the pushrod on a flat sheet of glass and try to roll it. Any gap or wobble disqualifies the part from further use. When installing the pushrods, make sure the tappets (lifters) in the block are not worn and the rocker arm seats show no signs of scoring. After installation, it is absolutely essential to adjust the valve clearances on a cold engine according to the model specification.
