Workshop Technical Tip: The cylinder head gasket thickness (here 1.10 mm) is matched to the piston protrusion above the block - the 4JJ1 engine has 1.05 / 1.10 / 1.15 mm versions available. Before buying, measure the piston protrusion or check the marking on the old gasket to select the correct thickness - the wrong thickness changes the compression ratio and risks valve-to-piston contact. The block and head surfaces must be perfectly clean, flat and degreased; check the head for flatness with a straightedge. Tighten the head bolts using the correct method (torque + angle) in the correct sequence per ISUZU specification - the 4JJ1 usually uses single-use (TTY) bolts. Do not apply sealant to the head gasket unless the manufacturer specifically requires it.
