Technical Advice: Removing the valve cover to replace the gasket is the perfect time to check the valve clearances! Before applying a new gasket, it is absolutely necessary to thoroughly degrease and clean the mating surfaces on the cylinder head and the cover itself. Even the smallest remains of old silicone, carbon deposits, or sand will prevent the new gasket from seating correctly, which will quickly lead to renewed leaks. Always tighten the cover mounting bolts alternately (in a crisscross pattern), starting from the center, using a torque wrench – overtightening "by feel" easily deforms the cover, destroying the new gasket.
