Technical Advice: A squealing V-belt is not always a sign that the belt itself is of poor quality! Before installing a new element, carefully clean and inspect the pulley tracks. If the pulleys are polished smooth, rusty, or have sharp edges gouged out by years of operation, the new belt will be destroyed in no time. Also remember that every new belt undergoes a minimal "seating" and stretching in the initial phase of operation. Absolutely check and correct its tension after the first dozen or so hours of machine operation. A belt that is too loose will slip (risk of engine overheating), and one that is tensioned too tightly will destroy the alternator or water pump bearings.
