Workshop Tip: Replacing the main hydraulic pump in a telehandler is a serious surgical procedure on the hydraulic system. Before installing the new pump, absolutely diagnose the cause of the previous one's failure. If the old pump suffered flaking or seizure, thousands of metallic micro-shavings are floating throughout the entire system (including the tank and hoses). Skipping the thorough system flushing and replacing filters with new ones will lead to immediate scratching and damage to the new pump within the very first minutes of operation!
Before startup: Manually prime the inside of the new pump with fresh, clean hydraulic oil and rotate the shaft several times by hand. This protects the internal thrust plates from a so-called dry start. After starting the machine, let it run for a few minutes at idle speed without load to thoroughly bleed the entire system.
