The bush provides the plain bearing in the boom pin joint, carries the load and prevents direct wear of the pin and the arm eye. Workshop Technical Tip: Boom bushes are an interference fit - use a press or a puller with a suitable mandrel, never drive the bush in on one point, as this risks deforming or cracking it. When fitting a perforated bush, make sure the grease holes/grooves line up with the grease channel and grease nipple - a misaligned hole cuts off the grease supply and accelerates wear. When replacing bushes, always check the pin condition - a worn or scored pin will quickly destroy a new bush, so the bush and pin are often replaced as a set. After fitting, grease the joint until grease flows out, flushing out contaminants. Remember to grease regularly per the JCB schedule - it is the cheapest way to ensure long joint life on attachment pivots.
