Golden rules for pin replacement:
1. Replace in pairs with bushings: Always verify the condition of the mating bushings. Installing a new pin into a worn, "egg-shaped" bushing will cause the pin to be point-supported, leading to its immediate wear or cracking under pressure.
2. Safe installation: Although the pin has a hard coating, striking its face directly with a steel hammer will cause the material to mushroom, damage the hardened layer, or prevent it from being properly inserted into the housings. Use only soft brass or copper drifts.
3. Proper lubrication: Before installation, coat the pin with a suitable grease (e.g., with molybdenum disulfide, MoS2). After assembly, remember to lubricate the system daily under pressure – fresh grease effectively flushes water and abrasive particles out of the joint.
