Workshop Technical Tip: Before replacing the starter, check the battery condition and earth connections - a flat battery or corroded terminals often mimic starter failure. Note the matching rotation direction (CW), number of teeth (10) and spigot diameter (89 mm) - these are key fitment parameters. When fitting, tighten the cables to the terminals to the correct torque and protect the connections against corrosion. After replacement, make sure the pinion engages correctly with the flywheel ring gear - a mismatched or damaged ring gear will destroy a new starter. For frequent cold starts, ensure a healthy battery of adequate capacity.
