Technical Advice: Damaged seals on the counter balance valve very often manifest as a slow, spontaneous dropping of the raised arm under its own weight or under load (cylinder drift). Absolute cleanliness must be maintained when replacing the O-rings in the valve block. This is a highly precision component – any grain of sand or metal shaving that falls under the valve needle during assembly will prevent it from closing and ruin the repair. Always use clean hydraulic oil to lubricate the new seals to prevent them from being cut on the port threads when screwing the valve back in.
