Workshop Technical Tip: Before fitting the new starter motor, inspect the ring gear teeth on the flywheel — worn or chipped teeth will rapidly destroy the new pinion. Also check the battery condition and earth cable connections — a 3.2 kW starter demands a low-resistance circuit: a weak battery or corroded terminals will overload the windings and cause premature failure. After installation, verify that the pinion end float and the clearance between pinion and ring gear are within specification — incorrect setup is the most common cause of noisy operation and premature wear. Note that this starter rotates CW (clockwise) — fitting a starter with the opposite rotation direction will damage the engine.
