Workshop Tip: Replacing the oil cooler with a new one is an absolute necessity in the event of a major engine failure, such as a spun bearing or seizure of the crank mechanism. Small metal shavings and contaminants get trapped inside the tight channels of the plate stack and are impossible to flush out completely. Leaving the old cooler in place will lead to immediate contamination of the new oil and subsequent engine damage. During installation, always use a new, dedicated housing gasket kit.
