Technical Advice: Measuring the oil level in the gearbox should be performed after setting the machine on a perfectly flat surface. Before pulling the dipstick out of the tube, absolutely clean the area around the plug from sand and mud! Contaminants that fall into the gearbox at this moment will act on the bearings and gears like an abrasive paste. Use only clean, lint-free paper towels to wipe the dipstick itself – never old, fraying rags, from which threads can be pulled in by the gears.
