Workshop Tip: The boom cylinder carries the heaviest static loads in the entire geometry of the excavator arm. If you notice the boom slowly drifting down while stationary with a raised load, the most common cause is internal bypass on the piston seal. Before installing new seals, ensure the 45 mm piston rod is free of micro-pitting and deep scratches, which can instantly cut the lip of the new gland seal. We recommend slightly warming the hard PTFE rings in warm hydraulic oil prior to installation, which significantly eases stretching and prevents cracking when fitting them onto the 90 mm piston.
