Thermostats and Housings

When to replace the water pump?

The pump should be replaced when leaks are visible from the weep hole ("weeping pump"), bearing noise is heard, or play is felt on the impeller shaft. Preventive replacement is also recommended during a major engine overhaul.

Can I remove the thermostat permanently?

Absolutely not. Running without a thermostat causes the engine to run cold (underheating), increasing fuel consumption and accelerating wear on rings and liners. The engine must operate at optimal working temperature.
