Signs of a thermostat failure include temperature gauge fluctuations on the dashboard, poor cabin heating, or rapid expulsion of fluid through the expansion tank. When installing a new thermostat, remember to thoroughly clean the seat in the engine block and use a new, dedicated gasket. Never remove the thermostat from the system "permanently" – this disrupts the coolant circulation and leads to the formation of hot spots in the cylinder head.
