Workshop Technical Advice: When replacing worn friction discs, always meticulously inspect the condition of all steel counter plates. Even minimal thermal discoloration (bluing), surface warping, or noticeable deep scoring qualifies the plate for immediate replacement. Leaving a damaged counter plate in the axle will lead to the rapid destruction of the new friction discs and cause severe shuddering during braking. Furthermore, remember to fill the axle with the correct gear oil designed specifically for wet brakes (containing specific friction modifier additives) to prevent the brakes from squawking and chattering when applied.
