Technical Advice: Proper installation of the intake valve seat in the 4JJ1 engine requires an appropriate interference fit. Shrink-fit installation (cooling the seat while simultaneously heating the cylinder head) is recommended to avoid scoring the seat in the casting. After installation, precise valve lapping and verification of the seat seal are essential. Even a minimal leak at the intake valve leads to starting issues, compression loss, and exhaust gases entering the intake manifold.
