Technical Advice: A faulty thermostat (stuck in the open position) causes engine underheating, which drastically increases fuel consumption and accelerates turbocharger degradation. When replacing the thermostat, it is always recommended to install a new gasket and check the cleanliness of the coolant. If the old thermostat has disintegrated, ensure that no fragments have blocked the passages in the engine block.
