Workshop Tip: The condition of the wiper seal is a "litmus test" for the cylinder's health. If you notice the wiper is perished, cracked, or does not fit tightly to the rod, replace it immediately. The cost of the seal is negligible compared to the cost of regenerating a scratched cylinder or replacing a control valve damaged by contaminants that entered the oil.
