Workshop Tip: The steering cylinder, due to its low location at the front axle, is exceptionally exposed to mud, water, stone impacts, and road salt.
Key steps during steering system regeneration:
1. Clearance verification: Before installing new seals, be sure to check the condition of the spherical bearings and the pins securing the cylinder. Too much clearance on the mountings causes bending stresses on the rod, which drastically shortens the life of the gland seals.
2. Rod inspection: Ensure that the 45 mm rod is perfectly straight and has no deep chrome losses. Remember that a bent rod will almost immediately unseal the new seal pack.
3. Installation sterility: Clean all components in technical cleaners. Before assembly, generously lubricate the new seals and guides with clean hydraulic oil to avoid the risk of rolling them "dry".
