Workshop Tip: In articulated JCB loaders (400 and TM series), the steering cylinders work continuously during every single maneuver, no matter how small. Furthermore, due to their location near the central articulation joint and the axle, they are directly exposed to stone impacts thrown by the wheels, as well as constant contact with mud and water.
Before proceeding with the installation of the new seals, thoroughly clean and inspect the chromed surface of the piston rod. Stone chips or scratches caused by hard dirt will instantly damage the new wiper and gland seal lips, bringing your hard work right back to square one. Install all sealing elements "wet" – before pressing the gland back into the cylinder (70 mm), moisten the seals with fresh hydraulic oil to prevent them from rolling over or jamming.
