Before seating the new seal, lubricate its outer edge and the sealing lip with a thin layer of clean lithium grease – this will facilitate assembly and prevent "dry running" in the first minutes after start-up. Remember to drive the seal in using an appropriate sleeve or an old bearing, striking evenly to avoid skewing it, which is the most common cause of immediate leaks.
