Workshop Technical Advice: Drive shaft failures in tracked excavators are most often the result of inadequate lubrication or worn supporting bearings. Before installing the new AM shaft, it is absolutely essential to clean and verify the condition of the splines in the mating component (e.g., the flange or hub) – installing a new shaft into a worn socket will cause it to shear rapidly! Additionally, before reassembling the gearbox, ensure the oil seals are in perfect condition. Once assembled, fill the system with fresh gear oil meeting the specifications recommended in the service manual.
