Workshop Tip: The rod seal operates in very harsh conditions – in direct contact with external elements (dust, sand, water, mud). If you notice cylinder "sweating" or oil streaks on the piston rod, do not delay the replacement. Ignoring a gland leak leads to system aeration, a drop in working pressure, and environmental pollution.
Before installing the new seal, thoroughly inspect the chromed surface of the piston rod. If there are deep longitudinal scratches, chips, or rust spots, the new gland seal will be instantly sheared, and the leak will return. When installing the new seal into the gland groove, remember to generously lubricate it with clean hydraulic oil – this will prevent the seal lip from rolling over and facilitate smooth insertion of the piston rod.
