Workshop Tip: The dipper cylinder operates under immense loads, often in direct contact with excavated material. Before replacing the seals, thoroughly clean the entire gland from mud and sand. After dismantling the cylinder, strictly check the condition of the 100 mm diameter piston rod's chrome plating and the 135 mm internal cylinder bore. Deep scratches and corrosion pitting will instantly destroy the new seals. Before installing new elements, generously lubricate them with clean hydraulic oil, and gently soften the harder plastic piston seals in warm oil to facilitate their safe seating without the risk of cracking.
