Workshop Tip: A water pump failure most often manifests itself as a coolant leak from the weep hole, unnatural noise coming from the bearing, or a tendency for the engine to overheat. When replacing the pump, it is absolutely necessary to thoroughly clean the mating surface on the engine block and use a new gasket (or a dedicated sealant if the specification requires it). This is also an ideal time to verify the condition of the serpentine/V-belt and its tensioner. Fill the system with new coolant and bleed it thoroughly.
